lumberjill

Woman who fells

A lumberjill is a female lumberjack—a woman who works felling trees, cutting timber, or doing other forestry work.

The term gained currency during World War II when women took over logging jobs from men serving in the military: The lumberjills kept the timber industry running during the war.

Now used playfully or historically.
