long-playing
Extended recording format
Long-playing describes vinyl records designed to play at 33⅓ revolutions per minute, holding more music than earlier 78 rpm records.
The format dominated recorded music from the 1950s through the 1980s.
A long-playing record is often called an LP: Their debut LP sold a million copies.
The term occasionally describes anything of extended duration: a long-playing Broadway hit.
