lock-out

Workers barred entry

A lock-out is the exclusion of workers from their workplace by an employer, typically during a labor dispute—the employer's counterpart to a strike.

The term extends to any situation where someone is prevented from entering or accessing something: a lock-out from your own car, an account lock-out after too many failed passwords.

In sports, a lock-out suspends play when owners and players can't agree on contract terms.
