line-outs

Lateral throw-in plays

Line-outs are the plural of line-out, a method of restarting play in rugby union after the ball goes out of bounds.

Players from both teams form parallel lines perpendicular to the sideline, and the ball is thrown in between them: They dominated the line-outs all match.

The term also refers to audio output connections that send a signal to external equipment.
