double-play
Two outs simultaneously
A double-play in baseball is a defensive play in which two offensive players are put out as a result of continuous action.
The most common type occurs when a ground ball is fielded, thrown to second base to force out a runner, then relayed to first base to retire the batter—this sequence is so routine it's called a 6-4-3 double-play, using the scorekeeper's position numbers.
Double-plays are prized for quickly ending innings and escaping jams with runners on base.
