legislative districts
Representative election areas
Legislative districts are geographic areas that each elect a representative to a lawmaking body.
The boundaries determine which voters choose which legislators: The state redrew its legislative districts after the census.
Districts ideally contain roughly equal populations, though gerrymandering—manipulating boundaries for political advantage—remains common.
Also called electoral districts or constituencies.
