legal motion
Formal court request
A legal motion is a formal request made to a court asking for a specific ruling or order.
Motions drive litigation forward: a motion to dismiss asks the judge to throw out a case, a motion for summary judgment seeks a ruling without trial, a motion to compel demands the other side produce evidence.
The defense filed a motion to suppress the confession.
