pro bono
Donated legal work
Pro bono describes professional work done without charge, especially legal services provided free to those who can't afford them.
The phrase is Latin for "for the good," short for "pro bono publico" (for the public good).
Lawyers are often expected to take pro bono cases: She does pro bono work for the immigration clinic.
The term has spread to other professions—designers, consultants, doctors—doing unpaid work for charitable purposes.
