pretrial detention
Jailed before court
Pretrial detention is the holding of an accused person in jail while awaiting trial.
Unlike imprisonment after conviction, it applies to people who haven't yet been found guilty.
Those who can't make bail or are denied bail remain in pretrial detention, sometimes for months or years: He spent fourteen months in pretrial detention before charges were dropped.
