legacy students
Parental alma matriculants
Legacy students are applicants to a school—typically a selective college or university—whose parents or other close relatives attended the same institution.
Many schools give preferential treatment to legacy applicants in admissions: Legacy students make up nearly a third of this year's freshman class.
The practice is controversial, criticized as perpetuating privilege across generations.
