leadsheet

Song's bare bones

A leadsheet is a simplified musical score showing only the melody line, lyrics, and chord symbols—the essential elements a musician needs to interpret a song.

Jazz and pop musicians use leadsheets to play standards without full arrangements: The band worked from leadsheets at the jam session.

Also written as two words: lead sheet.
