lava bombs
Airborne molten rocks
Lava bombs are large chunks of molten rock ejected from a volcano during eruption, typically solidifying into rounded or spindle shapes as they fly through the air.
They range from a few inches to several feet across and can travel considerable distances before landing: Lava bombs rained down on the village.
The term distinguishes these larger projectiles from volcanic ash and smaller debris.
