lateraling
Throwing the ball sideways
Lateraling is passing something sideways rather than forward or back.
The term comes from American football, where a lateral is a pass thrown parallel to or away from the goal line: He scored after lateraling to his teammate.
In workplace contexts, lateraling means moving to a position at the same level rather than up or down: She's lateraling to the marketing department.
