crabwalk

Belly-up locomotion

Crabwalk describes moving sideways with limbs splayed, like a crab.

The noun names the movement itself; the verb names doing it.

In exercise, a crabwalk is performed with hands and feet on the ground, belly up, shuffling sideways: We crabwalked across the gym floor.

The term extends to any awkward lateral movement: He crabwalked between the parked cars.
