lash-ups

Hastily assembled contraptions

Lash-ups are makeshift arrangements or improvised assemblies, often temporary and hastily constructed: The whole system was a lash-up of spare parts and duct tape.

The term suggests something functional but inelegant, cobbled together from available materials rather than properly engineered.

In British usage, a lash-up can also mean a bungled job or failure.
