lane rope
Swimmer's boundary line
A lane rope is a floating divider stretched across a swimming pool to separate lanes for competitive swimming or lap swimming.
The ropes typically consist of small plastic discs or floats strung on a cable, designed to reduce wave interference between lanes: The swimmer touched the lane rope and was disqualified.
