jackplane
Bench tool, medium
A jackplane is a general-purpose woodworking plane, typically 12 to 15 inches long, used for rough shaping and smoothing lumber.
It falls between the shorter smoothing plane and the longer jointer plane in size.
The jack in the name suggests its all-purpose utility—a jack of all trades among planes.
