input/output

Information moving through

Input/output refers to the flow of data into and out of a computer system—what goes in (keyboard strokes, mouse clicks, file uploads) and what comes out (screen displays, printouts, audio).

Often abbreviated I/O.

The term extends to any system with incoming and outgoing signals: The input/output of a mixing board can get complicated.
