inpainting
Filling missing pixels
Inpainting is a technique for filling in missing or damaged portions of an image.
In art restoration, conservators inpaint areas where paint has flaked away.
In digital imaging and AI, inpainting algorithms reconstruct lost regions by analyzing surrounding pixels: The software can inpaint the watermark right out of the photo.
The term extends to removing unwanted objects from photographs.
