initialling

Marking with letters

Initialling is the act of marking something with one's initials—typically to indicate approval, acknowledgment, or authorship.

Documents requiring multiple signatures often need initialling at various points: She went through the contract, initialling each page.

The spelling with double L is British; American English uses initialing.
