induced abortion
Deliberate pregnancy ending
Induced abortion is the deliberate termination of a pregnancy, as opposed to spontaneous abortion (miscarriage).
The procedure may be surgical or pharmaceutical.
In common usage, *abortion* without a modifier almost always means induced abortion: She had an abortion at eight weeks.
The term appears more often in medical and legal contexts than in everyday speech.
