import quotas
Foreign goods ceilings
Import quotas are government-imposed limits on the quantity of a particular good that can be brought into a country during a specified period.
Unlike tariffs, which raise prices, quotas directly restrict supply: The import quota on foreign steel protected domestic manufacturers.
Quotas may be absolute caps or allocated among trading partners.
