immigration hearing
Asylum case review
An immigration hearing is a legal proceeding before an immigration judge to determine whether a noncitizen may remain in a country or must be deported.
The judge reviews evidence, hears testimony, and rules on claims for asylum, visa status, or other relief from removal: Her immigration hearing has been postponed three times.
These hearings take place in immigration court, which in the United States operates separately from the regular federal court system.
