ijma
Jurists' collective judgment
Ijma is the consensus of Islamic scholars on a point of religious law or doctrine.
In Sunni jurisprudence, it stands alongside the Quran, the Hadith, and analogical reasoning as one of the four sources of Islamic law.
Once ijma is established on a matter, it becomes binding and authoritative: The prohibition is supported by ijma among classical scholars.
The concept reflects the prophetic tradition that the Muslim community will not agree upon error.
