hyperkinesis

Abnormally increased motion

Hyperkinesis is excessive or abnormal muscular movement, often involuntary.

In medicine, it describes conditions involving uncontrolled motion—tics, tremors, or the restless activity associated with attention deficit disorders.

The term appears in older diagnostic language where hyperkinetic disorder preceded ADHD as terminology.

The adjective is hyperkinetic: a hyperkinetic child, hyperkinetic editing style.
