hotwiring
Stealing car technique
Hotwiring is starting a vehicle without a key by bypassing the ignition system—typically by exposing wires under the dashboard and connecting them directly.
The technique is associated with car theft: He learned hotwiring from older kids in the neighborhood.
Figuratively, to hotwire something is to bypass normal procedures to get quick results.
