Hair-smoothing tool
A hot comb is a metal comb heated and pulled through tightly curled or coiled hair to straighten it temporarily.
The tool has teeth spaced to grip textured hair while heat loosens the curl pattern.
Hot combs were central to Black hair care for much of the 20th century, before chemical relaxers and natural hair movements offered alternatives: She pressed her daughter's hair with a hot comb before church.
