Natural hair transition
Big chop refers to cutting off most or all of one's hair, especially when a Black person removes chemically relaxed or heat-damaged hair to embrace natural texture.
The term originated in natural hair communities as a pivotal moment in transitioning away from straightening treatments: I did the big chop last year and never looked back.
More broadly, any dramatic haircut that removes significant length: She's considering the big chop after years of growing it out.
