horned frogs

Toads with protrusions

Horned frogs are stout, ground-dwelling frogs with horn-like projections above their eyes, native to South America.

Their wide mouths allow them to consume prey nearly their own size.

The name also refers to the horned lizard of the American Southwest, and to the TCU Horned Frogs, the athletic teams of Texas Christian University.
