horned frog

Toad with projections

A horned frog is any of several squat, wide-mouthed frogs native to South America, named for the pointed projections above their eyes.

They're popular as pets despite their aggressive temperament.

The term also refers to the horned lizard of the American Southwest—a spiny, ant-eating reptile that's the mascot of Texas Christian University: The TCU Horned Frogs play in Fort Worth.
