honeycreepers

Nectar-feeding island birds

Honeycreepers are small, brightly colored birds found in two distinct groups: the Hawaiian honeycreepers, a diverse family that evolved remarkable bill shapes to exploit different food sources, and the tropical American honeycreepers, nectar-feeding tanagers of Central and South America.

Both groups are named for their habit of feeding on flower nectar, though many also eat insects and fruit.
