home language
Native speech variety
Home language is the language spoken in a person's household, especially when it differs from the dominant language of the surrounding community or school system.
Educational contexts use the term to identify students whose families speak something other than English at home: The form asked parents to indicate their child's home language.
It often implies the first language a child acquires.
