home detention
Monitored domestic confinement
Home detention is a legal arrangement where a convicted person serves their sentence at home rather than in jail or prison, typically monitored by an electronic ankle bracelet.
The person may be allowed to leave for work, medical appointments, or other approved activities, but must remain home otherwise: She was sentenced to six months of home detention.
Also called house arrest, though that term can apply to political prisoners held without trial.
