supervised release
Conditional post-prison freedom
Supervised release is a period of court-ordered monitoring that follows a federal prison sentence, during which the released person must comply with specific conditions set by the judge.
These conditions typically include regular meetings with a probation officer, restrictions on travel, drug testing, and prohibitions on associating with certain people.
Unlike parole, which allows early release from prison, supervised release begins after the full prison term has been served.
He was sentenced to five years in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
