simple sentence
One clause only
A simple sentence contains one independent clause—a subject and predicate expressing a complete thought.
The dog barked.
She runs every morning.
Despite the name, simple sentences can include compound subjects, compound verbs, and various modifiers; what makes them simple is having just one clause.
