holy fool
Blessed naive wanderer
A holy fool is someone whose apparent simplicity, unconventional behavior, or disregard for social norms masks or expresses spiritual wisdom.
The concept appears across religious traditions—the Russian Orthodox *yurodiviy* who feigns madness to speak uncomfortable truths, or the Sufi who appears foolish to the worldly.
More broadly, a holy fool is anyone whose innocence or naivety seems to grant them insight the sophisticated miss: He wandered through the crisis like a holy fool, saying exactly what needed to be said.
