holddown
Device preventing movement
A holddown is a device or mechanism that keeps something securely in place—a clamp, bracket, or fastener that prevents movement or lifting.
In rocketry, holddowns are the restraints that anchor a vehicle to the launch pad until full thrust is achieved.
The term also describes any action or policy that suppresses or limits: wage holddowns, a holddown on spending.
