hog wallow
Swine mud pool
A hog wallow is a muddy depression where pigs roll and coat themselves, which helps them cool off and protect their skin from parasites and sunburn.
By extension, any muddy, churned-up patch of ground may be called a hog wallow, whether or not actual hogs created it.
The term sometimes appears figuratively to describe any situation or place characterized by filth, moral degradation, or wallowing in something unpleasant.
