hiveminds
Unified group intelligences
Hiveminds is the plural of hivemind, a collective consciousness in which individual minds merge into a unified intelligence.
The term comes from the coordinated behavior of bees in a hive.
In science fiction, hiveminds often appear as alien species or cybernetic collectives where individual identity dissolves into the group.
Figuratively, hivemind describes any group that seems to think and act in lockstep: Social media creates a hivemind where dissent gets shouted down.
The spelling varies between hivemind and hive mind.
