hitching rail

Equine parking spot

A hitching rail is a horizontal bar, typically wooden, mounted on posts where horses can be tied by their reins.

Common outside buildings in the era before automobiles, hitching rails remain familiar from Western films and historical districts: He looped the reins over the hitching rail and walked into the saloon.

Also called a hitching post, though that term more precisely describes a single vertical post.
