head restraint

Seat's neck support

A head restraint is the padded extension at the top of a car seat designed to prevent whiplash during rear-end collisions.

It limits backward head movement on impact.

Often called a headrest, though that term suggests comfort rather than safety—head restraints are required safety equipment, not cushions for resting.
