backrest

Seat's lumbar support

A backrest is the part of a chair, seat, or bench that supports the sitter's back.

Car seats, office chairs, and park benches have backrests; stools and ottomans typically don't.

The term also applies to portable supports that prop up someone sitting in bed: She adjusted the backrest to read more comfortably.
