A rutted road has deep grooves worn into its surface by repeated passage of wheels, typically from vehicles traveling the same tracks over soft or unpaved ground.
The ruts make driving difficult, as wheels tend to follow the existing channels: The rutted road shook the truck so hard my teeth rattled.
