figure study
Body form artwork
A figure study is a drawing, painting, or sculpture focused on the human body, typically nude, created to develop an artist's understanding of anatomy, proportion, and form.
Figure studies are often exercises rather than finished works, produced in life drawing classes or private practice: The sketchbook contained dozens of quick figure studies.
