guidons
Small unit banners
Guidons are small flags or pennants used to identify military units, especially in cavalry and armored divisions.
Each guidon typically bears the unit's colors and insignia, serving as a rallying point in formation: The platoon assembled behind its guidon.
The term also applies to the soldier who carries such a flag.
