guiding spirit
Invisible moral counselor
A guiding spirit is an entity—real, imagined, or metaphorical—believed to provide direction, inspiration, or protection.
The term can refer to a literal supernatural being, as in some religious or spiritual traditions, or figuratively to a person whose influence shapes another's path: She became my guiding spirit through those difficult years.
Also used for the animating force behind a movement or institution: He was the guiding spirit of the organization.
