lost soul
One without direction
A lost soul is someone adrift in life—confused, purposeless, or spiritually troubled.
The phrase suggests someone who has strayed from a path and cannot find their way back: He wandered the city like a lost soul.
It can carry religious overtones of damnation, but more often describes someone who seems aimless or deeply unhappy: She took in every lost soul who needed a place to stay.
