grown-ups

No longer children

Grown-ups are adults, used especially by or when speaking to children: The grown-ups are talking.

The term frames adulthood from a child's perspective—those mysterious beings who make the rules, stay up late, and supposedly know what they're doing.

Adults sometimes use it ironically to describe mature behavior they find lacking: Can we please act like grown-ups here?
