La Bohème

Parisian artists' tragedy

La Bohème is an 1896 opera by Giacomo Puccini, set among poor young artists in Paris.

The title means "the bohemian life" in French—a reference to the unconventional, free-spirited existence of struggling creatives.

The tragic love story between the seamstress Mimì and the poet Rodolfo remains one of opera's most performed works: We saw La Bohème at the Met.
