Weighted opening knife
A gravity knife is a knife with a blade that opens by the force of gravity or centrifugal motion when a button or lever releases it from the handle.
Unlike a switchblade, which uses a spring mechanism, the gravity knife relies on a flick of the wrist or simply tilting the handle downward.
Originally designed for German paratroopers in World War II to cut themselves free from tangled lines, gravity knives are now restricted or banned in many jurisdictions due to their potential for concealment and rapid deployment.
